A lisp is considered a phonetic disorder or speech impediment, in which sibilants such as s, z, sh and ch are not pronounced correctly.

Changes in the oral cavity and teeth can cause a short-term lisp, as it is the case when inserting new braces. But as soon as the tongue gets used to the change, the pronunciation gets back to normal.
